Bad news for all you downloaders out there, Labor and The Coalition have backed the Copyright Amendment (Online Infringement) Bill 2015, which is designed to allow TV and movie rights holders to ask a judge to block Australian users’ access to online locations that have the “primary purpose of facilitating copyright infringement”. This means that sites like Pirate Bay, KickassTorrents, Watch Series, or whatever you use to illegally download will most likely be blocked.

This is sad news because we only just got Pirate Bay back and now we will most likely have to say goodbye to our dear friend if the bill is passed, which looks imminent as The Greens were the only party to oppose. If the bill is passed, the effectiveness of the scheme will be recommended for review after two years so if this affects you, cross your fingers and hope that the legislation turns out to be a waste of resources. In the meantime, maybe you could nab your mate’s Netflix password.
